 BEFORE...
Represented Britain in the 1987 World Championships in Oberstdorf.
Represented Britain in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.
Came 56th position out of 57 competitors. The 57th was disqualified.

 AFTER...
Made £87,000 in one week after his world famous jump, and built up almost £400,000 by the end of the year.
Released the book and video "Eddies On The Piste".
Released a song in 1991 that went to number 2 in Finland called "Mun Nimeni On Eetu" which translated as "My Name Is Eddie". Eddie also recorded the song "Eddien Siivella" which translates as "On Eddie's Wing".
Was declared bankrupt in 1992, claiming a trust fund designed to handle his earnings wasn't set up properly.
Trained in Finland for the 1998 Olympics but failed to qualify.
Now a law student in Leicester.
In March 2002, an American production company bought the exclusive film and TV rights to Eddie's story, and if a film goes ahead then Eddie will perform some of the ski-jumps in it. He said that he hopes he will be played by Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle or Brad Pitt!
Eddie currently works as a sports agent.
